Town manager Robbie Rock gives us his reaction after our league defeat to Moyola Park.
Q - Okay Robbie, it's a 10-1 defeat to league leaders Moyola Park here at Milne Meadow. It's obviously not a result we would have wanted at all. What are your thoughts on tonight's game?
A - Really, really disappointed in the second half. The first half we were out of luck at times but to be only 2-1 down and we never got a count of ourselves in the first half went in, didn't think, in my wildest thoughts I didn't think that second half would happen but unfortunately, not making excuses and I won't make excuses because I'm really disappointed with some of them players in there. It's not good enough and the problem is we've come out and conceded I think it's six goals in 25 minutes.
Q - To pick parts out of it and all, it's not even worth doing. It's just really, really bad second half inexperience. Again, it doesn't matter what age you are.
A - You just need to be able to run. Body's on the line and I felt like in the second half probably lads just didn't fancy it because it was cold in the weather if I'm being brutally honest.
Q - It seems to me, like from the stands anyway, there were two stories to this game the first of which panned out in the first half.So we start out under a bit of pressure, we come through that pressure, we get a foothold in the game, Ethan Souza plays a fantastic ball into Benjamin Buckley and we're back in the game almost. You're walking in at half time, what's going through your head?
A - Just literally go out and do that again but unfortunately, like I've said before, we just can't seem to piece that together. I don't know if it's the young lads in the team just having the inexperience to be calm when they need to be.I think it just becomes a thing of we just probably let ourselves down, let the inexperience take over and we've suffered big time.
And at times, definitely in the second half, they bet us on effort and we can't be getting bet on effort, especially in the situation we're in when we know the quality other teams have.
Q - So Robbie, despite the scoreline, what are the takeaways from tonight's game in advance of a huge game next week against Portstewart?
A - Yeah, obviously, again, if I could just copy and paste the first half, and I know at times we rolled our luck, but we're going to do that. The score goal in the first half, I think it's the first time we've done it since, I want to say, Lisburn in the cup, the second game that I was here. We created chances.
We had a lot of shooting opportunities that we were starting to take. But again, it's still very raw.But it's still very to notice where the positives are, especially after a result like that and it being, you know, the second half, definitely to forget.
But we need to, like you said, it's a huge game next Saturday and we just need to pick ourselves up and go again.I don't want anyone to feel sorry for us.I don't want the players to feel sorry.
All we can do is pick ourselves up and hopefully give the fans a better game next weekend at home.
Q - Moving on from tonight's game, and just on a more positive note, we've done a bit of business in the transfer window already. We've recruited Victor Ihermeje and Luke Povall. Yes.
What has attracted you to those players and what can their impact be on the pitch from what we see in Crystal Park?
A - Yeah, so Victor's been at the club before. He's a good, strong striker. He came on today.
Maybe he knows himself. Probably just needs to work on his fitness a bit, but he's a person that can definitely score goals. His physicality is second to none and we just need to, with his experience, he has to go with that a little bit more.
Luke is a player that we've watched over the last few months. He's coming in from the Drogheda United Academy. He's a fantastic centre-back.
Calm, playing on the ball, very strong.Speaks well on the pitch, good aerial.I'm actually really excited to see him play for us next weekend.
Hopefully, all going well. He'll be in the squad for that, but definitely two players that will help us in hopefully putting into our 12 points that we're trying to get back.
Q - Just one more thing.Do you expect any more business to be done? Can we look forward to anything else in this transfer window?
A - We're open to everything.I'm not going to rule anything out, but if this was the only two that came in, I wouldn't be disappointed in it either. We're looking at one or two, but again, they've got to fit the club and what we're trying to build first rather than just going to get lads for the sake of getting them.
